The NBA season, including the Rockets’ first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, will resume Saturday on the NBA’s Central Florida campus, a person with knowledge of the NBA plans said on Thursday.
The NBA postponed games on Thursday following the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision not to play their game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, prompting discussions among the Rockets and other teams scheduled to play about taking similar steps to protest in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Black, a 29-year-old Black man in Kenosha, Wis.
The Rockets practiced on Thursday with guard Russell Westbrook participating. Westbrook was listed as questionable to play on Wednesday, but was going to test his strained groin in pregame warmups with the intention of playing. The Rockets are scheduled to practice again on Friday.
The series with the Thunder is tied, 2-2, after the Thunder had comebacks in Games 3 and 4 to even the series. Westbook has yet to play in the postseason and played in just four of the eight seeding games because of the injury.
