Alabama adds 1,561 coronavirus cases to total but 1,297 from backlogged data – al.com

Alabama saw its total number of coronavirus cases increase by 1,561 today but almost 1,,300 of those are from a backlog of older cases, the Alabama Department of Public Health said.

ADPH’s Aug. 29 10 a.m. figures show 115,284 total COVID-19 cases in the state, an increase of 1,561. The death count rose by 42 to 2,059.

The higher-than-average increases, however, were due to an influx of older tests from one lab.

“We recently onboarded a new laboratory. When new laboratories are onboarded with ADPH, we sometimes will receive a backlog of results, both positive and negative,” ADPH said in a statement. “The increase in confirmed cases on the dashboard today, August 29, reflect 1,297 positive cases from one backlog.”

The backlogged data dates back to July 31.
